Zotero storage, managed for you#
Sync your Zotero library to European servers without running your own infrastructure. TurtleTech handles the WebDAV backend, TLS certificates, authentication, backups, and storage scaling. You configure a URL in Zotero and forget about it.
- Cheaper than Zotero’s official plans – 50% to 75% of Zotero’s storage pricing, with more flexibility
- EU data residency – files stored in Amsterdam (Backblaze B2) under Icelandic jurisdiction, full GDPR compliance
- No self-hosting – no VPS, no Docker, no rclone config. We operate the entire stack
- Works with Zotero 7 – standard WebDAV protocol, nothing proprietary

2. Configure Zotero
Open Zotero Settings > Sync > File Syncing. Change the dropdown from “Zotero” to “WebDAV” and enter:

Setup guide#
Where to find settings#
- Windows/Linux: Edit > Settings > Sync
- macOS: Zotero > Settings > Sync
File syncing vs data syncing#
Zotero syncs metadata (titles, authors, tags) through Zotero’s own servers for free. WebDAV handles attachment files (PDFs, snapshots). You need a free Zotero account for metadata sync regardless of where files are stored.
WebDAV URL format#
https://zotero.turtletech.us/dav/USERNAME/zotero/Replace USERNAME with your TurtleTech username. The trailing slash is
required.
Verification fails?#
- Confirm the URL ends with
/ - Confirm your credentials match your TurtleTech account (reset password at auth.turtletech.us)
- Confirm you selected “WebDAV” (not “Zotero”) in the dropdown
FAQ#
Where is my data stored?
Attachment files are stored in Backblaze B2’s Amsterdam (EU) data center. The WebDAV proxy runs on our server in Nuremberg, Germany (NetCup). All data stays in the EU/EEA.
How are backups handled?
Backblaze B2 provides 11-nines durability at the storage layer. We run daily backup verification. Your local Zotero library is also a full copy of your data.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. Contact support@turtletech.us to upgrade or downgrade. Changes take effect on the next billing cycle.
What happens if I cancel?
Your data remains available for 30 days after cancellation. Download your files or keep syncing your local Zotero library before the retention period ends. After 30 days, data is permanently deleted per our Terms of Service.
Can I migrate from Mendeley?
Yes. Zotero has a built-in Mendeley importer. See our migration guide for step-by-step instructions.
Is this compatible with Zotero groups?
Zotero group libraries use Zotero’s own storage and cannot be redirected to WebDAV. Personal libraries work with WebDAV. If you primarily use personal libraries, this service covers your needs.
